Dr. Joseph Ippolito, a member of Dr. Jeff Milbrandt’s lab, and his research team had a paper published recently in JCI Insight. The article, “Sexual dimorphism in glioma glycolysis underlies sex differences in survival,” shows that enhanced glucose metabolism confers sex-specific decreased survival in males with gliomas. Conversely some females with enhanced glucose metabolism have longer survival, depending upon the presence of a specific mutation in the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) gene, according to the paper.
