Jeffrey Milbrandt, M.D., Ph.D., the James S. McDonnell Professor of Genetics and head of the Department of Genetics at Washington University School of Medicine, is a senior author on a new paper from the DiAntonio Lab recently published in JCI Insight. The paper, “Vincristine and bortezomib use distinct upstream mechanisms to activate a common SARM1-dependent axon degeneration program,” shows that chemotherapies cause neuropathy via distinct mechanisms, but converge on SARM1 as the regulator of axon degeneration. These data support SARM1 as a therapeutic target in CIPN and other neurodegenerative diseases. Stephanie Geiseler, M.D., Assistant Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine and a member of the DiAntonio Lab, is first author on the paper. Aaron DiAntonio, M.D., Ph.D., Alan A and Edith L Wolff Professor of Developmental Biology at Washington University School of Medicine, is also a senior author on the paper. Congratulations, all!
