 t majority of CpG island promoters remain hypomethylated throughout develop
 ment. However\, a subset of such promoters are subject to de novo methylati
 on and transcriptional silencing in the early mouse embryo. I will present 
 unpublished work aimed at identifying the epigenetic features that promote 
 or protect these CpG-rich regions against DNA methylation at this developme
 ntal stage\, and compare these features to those required for de novo DNA m
 ethylation of CpG island promoters in the germline.</p><p><img class="align
