She completed her PhD in Bioinformatics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist and Project Leader at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Germany. In 2025, Dr. Sun established her laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis.

Her research focuses on using deep learning model to predict clinical outcomes and identify disease-specific molecular signatures from genomic data. She is dedicated to advancing precision medicine and discovering novel therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
