Talk Title: Can we restore hearing by reprogramming the cochlea?

Abstract: Sensory hair cells of the inner ear detect sound and balance stimuli, but can be killed by aging, noise, chemotherapy and certain antibiotics. Most vertebrates are able to regenerate their hair cells, but mammals cannot. I will describe what we have learned about the failure of hair cell regeneration in mammals and how to overcome this by in vivo reprogramming
