Presents: Mitochondrial Genetic Variation and Aging-related Disease
Host: Dr. Peter Jin
In person only: Connor Auditorium (FLTC)
Abstract: Mitochondria play critical roles in key cellular functions, including energy production, cell signaling, and apoptosis. I will discuss the emerging evidence for mitochondrial genetic variation, particularly somatic variation, in modifying risk for aging-related diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and overall mortality.
