Talk Title: Comparative Single-Cell Approaches to Cell Type Evolution and Plasticity

Abstract: By profiling the neural crest lineage during vertebrate head development, we aim to understand how enhancers control patterning and evolution of the face. Through comparative multiomics of human and zebrafish heads, we uncovered an unexpected gill origin of the outer ear. We are also analyzing how regional and cell type specific transcription factors regulate highly restricted enhancer activity to pattern the distinct connective tissues of the jaw.
